Astăzi începe Conferința Națiunilor Unite privind Schimbările Climatice – COP30, care are loc la Belém, Brazilia, în perioada 10–21 noiembrie 2025. Evenimentul reunește aproape toate țările lumii sub un obiectiv comun: combaterea crizei climatice globale. COP (Conference of the Parties – Conferința Părților) este singurul forum multilateral de decizie la nivel mondial dedicat schimbărilor climatice, unde statele negociază acțiuni concrete pentru limitarea creșterii temperaturii globale la 1,5°C, sprijinirea comunităților vulnerabile și atingerea obiectivului de emisii net zero până în anul 2050.

Procesul COP își are originea în Convenția-Cadru a Națiunilor Unite privind Schimbările Climatice (UNFCCC), un tratat internațional adoptat în 1992, la Summitul Pământului de la Rio de Janeiro (Rio-92). Această convenție a pus bazele cooperării internaționale în domeniul climei, pornind de la principiul „responsabilităților comune, dar diferențiate”, conform căruia toate statele trebuie să acționeze împotriva schimbărilor climatice, însă țările dezvoltate au obligația de a conduce eforturile de reducere a emisiilor și de a sprijini financiar, tehnologic și instituțional țările în curs de dezvoltare.

De-a lungul celor trei decenii, conferințele COP au devenit pilonul central al guvernanței climatice mondiale, marcând momente esențiale precum Protocolul de la Kyoto (1997) și Acordul de la Paris (2015). Aceste reuniuni anuale reprezintă spații de dialog și decizie, unde lideri politici, oameni de știință, reprezentanți ai mediului de afaceri, ai societății civile, tineri și popoare indigene colaborează pentru a accelera acțiunea climatică globală și pentru a transforma angajamentele în măsuri reale.

Activitatea UNFCCC se bazează pe cinci piloni principali: atenuare (mitigation), adaptare, finanțare, tehnologie și consolidarea capacităților. În ultimii ani, au căpătat o importanță tot mai mare teme precum pierderile și daunele (loss and damage), tranziția justă, egalitatea de gen, drepturile popoarelor indigene, implicarea tinerilor, agricultura sustenabilă și protecția oceanelor. Toate aceste domenii reflectă caracterul tot mai integrat și mai incluziv al dezbaterilor globale privind clima.

COP30 reprezintă un moment decisiv pentru acțiunea climatică globală – fiind cea de-a 30-a reuniune a Părților la Convenția ONU privind Schimbările Climatice și prima găzduită vreodată în regiunea Amazonului. Într-un moment crucial pentru implementarea angajamentelor din Acordul de la Paris, COP30 aduce în prim-plan vocea Sudului Global, a popoarelor indigene și a noii generații de tineri implicați. Această ediție marchează trecerea de la promisiuni la acțiuni concrete, reafirmând necesitatea cooperării și responsabilității comune pentru un viitor sustenabil, echitabil și sigur pentru toți.
